Also known as “The Lakes” area of Minneapolis, back in late 1800’s people came from far and wide to vacation along the area’s three lakes: Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet and Lake of the Isles. When Minneapolis housing boom began in the 1920’s, a commercial district came right along with it, turning this vacation spot into a residential area.

Several years later Uptown developed an artist culture, which is still prominent to this day. Today Uptown is known for its nightlife of over 20 bars, its restaurants and shopping. It has become a famous shopping center for people of Minneapolis.

The term Uptown was coined from the musician Prince, who recorded a song about that area.
